History in short: The hobby of homebrewing in the early 2000s grew into a passion for owner Jon Miller. As life took its normal course — jobs, kids, responsibilities, etc. — the desire to turn beer-making into a profession never left. Eventually, it was Skeleton Key Brewery’s “Spare Keys” incubator program that provided Miller with the knowledge and guidance to take the leap, and Bubblehouse officially opened for business in November of 2021.
As an open, modern, family-friendly taproom that values community and conversation, it’s clear this is a good spot to settle in with a beer and catch up with friends… or make new ones.
The space: As an open, modern, family-friendly taproom that values community and conversation, it’s clear this is a good spot to settle in with a beer and catch up with friends… or make new ones. The big front window lets in a lot of natural light, and don’t forget to check out their private event space overlooking the brew house.
Interesting note: You can get $1 off featured pints on Wednesday and Thursday, enjoy live music on Friday and Saturday nights, and sort through a collection of board games whenever the competitive spirit hits you. Don’t forget the addictive game called Crokinole. Seriously, check it out.
What we’re drinking: The Art and Soul, a dry-hopped golden ale, is light and refreshing, while the tart Brambled Thoughts is a kettle sour that’s dry hopped with Lemondrop and Huell Melon hops and conditioned on blackberry puree. Looking for a session IPA? Try Big Hands, Tiny Feet, a smooth rye West Coast IPA that registers at just 4.9% ABV.
Up next: Bubblehouse is doing a great job of getting their name (and beer) out there, as you can find them pouring their brews at the Batavia Brew Fest (Sept. 24), Hops for Hope 5K and Briefest in St. Charles (Oct. 1) and the Morton Arboretum Cider & Ale Fest in Lisle (Oct. 22), among other events this fall.
