Executive director of the Illinois Craft Brewers Guild

In towns big and small, from Chicago’s 77 neighborhoods to rural Main Streets, Illinois craft breweries are more than just places to enjoy a pint. They are economic engines, cultural hubs and proud representations of our state’s creativity. As Executive Director of the Illinois Craft Brewers Guild (ICBG), I’m proud to represent more than 300 breweries and supplier partners who are strengthening communities, creating jobs and producing world-class beer right here in Illinois.

But local beer doesn’t just happen. It’s built on passion, perseverance and people — people who invest in their neighborhoods, hire local talent, support nonprofits and turn empty storefronts into lively gathering spaces. Every time you choose an Illinois craft beer, you’re investing back into your local economy. You’re helping a brewer expand production, a server keep their job, a distributor grow their reach and a community maintain its unique character.

At the Guild, our mission is simple: to support the development and expansion of the Illinois craft beer industry through advocacy, education and promotion. We serve as the voice for brewers in Springfield, working to modernize laws and regulations that impact how beer is produced, sold and enjoyed. We provide resources and technical training to help breweries thrive in a competitive marketplace, and we create opportunities like Illinois Craft Beer Week and FoBAB (Festival of Wood and Barrel-Aged Beer) to showcase the talent and innovation of our brewing community.

Craft brewing is not without its challenges. Rising costs, supply chain disruptions, changing consumer habits and a crowded national market mean our brewers must constantly adapt and evolve. That’s where the strength of a united Guild comes in, bringing breweries together to collaborate, share knowledge and advocate for a stronger, more sustainable future.

At the Guild, our mission is simple: to support the development and expansion of the Illinois craft beer industry through advocacy, education and promotion. We serve as the voice for brewers in Springfield, working to modernize laws and regulations that impact how beer is produced, sold and enjoyed.

While we’re serious about advocacy, we’re just as serious about enjoying the fruits of our labor. Summer is one of the best times to explore Illinois’ vibrant brewery scene. Plan a bike ride that ends with a cold lager at a trailside taproom. Pair a hike in one of our beautiful state parks with a stop at a local brewery for a well-earned IPA. Heading to Lake Michigan for the day? Pack a picnic and grab a few cans of your favorite local beer to enjoy on the beach (where allowed, of course). Many breweries have dog-friendly patios, live music, food trucks and outdoor games all perfect for soaking up the sun while supporting local.

Our work is not just about beer. It’s about pride of place. It’s about preserving and advancing a uniquely Illinois story, one brew, one business, one community at a time.

So this summer, make it a point to explore, sip and support. Choose Illinois craft. Support the small businesses that pour their hearts into every batch and know that with every visit, every flight and every cheers, you’re helping fuel a movement that’s as local and vibrant as the communities we call home.
